An Introduction

Controlled Key Systems, Inc. is a California licensed lock and security equipment contractor. Our specialties include master key and key control systems, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, architectural hardware systems sales, installation and service for CCTV surveillance cameras and safes. Controlled Key Systems began in 1983, and is dedicated to the commercial, industrial, government and asset management sectors. We have always held the belief that a strong customer relationship is more important than the sheer volume of installation and service calls. Our beliefs have been confirmed by our customer list. We have in-depth knowledge of access control and electronic security systems, master key system design, implementation and control, and are dealers for most brands of architectural hardware. Prior to co-founding Controlled Key Systems in 1983, Margaret Spring-Wojdynski worked in the Camera & Film Department at a San Diego K-Mart, working her way up to department manager in a short time. She was responsible for the inventory and stock orders for the department and worked with K-Mart’s vendors to ensure the inventory was maintained at the proper levels. Margaret also managed the orders for developing film for customers, working with K-Mart’s photo developing vendor, Phototron. She insured that the customers’ orders were submitted correctly and quickly. She also made sure that the completed orders received from Phototron were labeled correctly, had the correct quantity of photos, and worked with the customers, when they picked up their orders, to be sure they were satisfied with the results. Margaret devised an easy system for the department to use for logging and tracking customers’ film orders that got her the department manager’s position. The Phototron sales representative that Margaret worked with was so impressed with the system that she convinced Phototron to recruit Margaret for an open Service & Sales Representative position with Phototron.

Margaret accepted the position and was assigned a territory that included Orange and Los Angeles Counties and most of the Central Valley of California. She helped her customers increase their film developing sales and introduced them to the system of tracking and logging she had developed at K-Mart. One of her customers was located on Santa Catalina Island, so Margaret had to take the Catalina Express or a seaplane out of Long Beach to visit that customer. Eventually, Margaret was promoted to Area Sales Manager and continued in that capacity until the birth of her first child.

Margaret had studied Accounting in college and applied this, along with the management skills she had learned at K-Mart and Phototron, to the start of Controlled Key Systems. She set up the bookkeeping system, hired a third-party accountant, set up payroll, and worked with the various city, county, and state agencies to insure Controlled Key Systems was legally licensed and registered. Working closely with the commercial insurance agent, Margaret determined the proper levels of insurance, met customers’ insurance requirements, and made sure that the proper insurance certificates were delivered. Over the years, as Controlled Key Systems has hired additional employees, Margaret has kept up on employment laws by attending seminars and classes, including prevailing wage, Davis-Bacon Act, and certified payroll reporting. A Simple IRA retirement plan was instituted by Margaret and the financial advisor, for the benefit of all employees, including a company matching percentage.

As CEO and Corporate Secretary, Margaret is responsible for the continued administration of the company and works closely with management and the staff to insure a smooth operation.

Prior to co-founding Controlled Key Systems in 1983, Paul Wojdynski served as Chief Locksmith for Disneyland and Operations Manager for a North OC retail locksmith. Currently, a fleet of nine fully stocked service vehicles allows us to respond to our customers’ needs in a very timely manner.

Paul Wojdynski, founder and President of Controlled Key Systems, Inc. began his security industry career in 1969 at a small locksmith shop in Anaheim.  He continued to grow within the industry, through several locksmith shops, to the position of operations manager for a North Orange County retail locksmith.  He continually attended locksmith association and factory certification classes and seminars that were available through these industry sources.  In 1976, Paul was hired as the Chief Locksmith for Disneyland, and later also serviced other divisions of the Walt Disney Company in the Burbank area.  It was during this period that his knowledge and expertise of master key systems and key control expanded to include the maintenance of extremely large key systems.

Paul was recruited by The Irvine Company late in 1980 to institute and develop an in-house locksmith and key control department that would maintain the numerous properties owned by the largest landowner in Orange County.  His expertise in key systems led to the tight controls still in use by The Irvine Company today.

It was during this period, while employed by The Irvine Company, that access control began to become more popular with larger companies that had many employees.  Once again, through industry and trade classes and seminars, Paul began to study and work with access control systems. The new office buildings and parking areas needed unattended control and card access systems were installed.  The Key Control department oversaw several of these systems.  Controlled Key Systems,Inc. still counts The Irvine Company as one of its largest clients.

When Controlled Key Systems was started, it was our goal to include access control and surveillance camera systems as part of its product offering.  That portion of the business continues to grow as more facility and property managers realize the simplicity and low cost of operation of an access control system.  It became clear that the best way to service our customers was to specialize in a system that offered all of the options our customers would need and ensure that our technicians were solidly versed in those systems.  Hirsch Electronics’ access systems were chosen to be, and still are, the primary access control product line of Controlled Key Systems, Inc., and over the years we have continued to sell and service Hirsch systems.

The next time you need superior locksmith, access control, and/or surveillance camera service, just call us at Controlled Key Systems, Inc. and let us help you. Thank you from everyone at Controlled Key Systems, Inc., we look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,
Margaret Spring-Wojdynski and Paul R. Wojdynski
